Ozekis Tochiazuma,
Chiyotaikai remain undefeated

TOKYO (AP) - Ozekis (champions) Tochiazuma and Chiyotaikai kept a clean slate, while fellow champ Musoyama remained winless on Monday, the second day of the 15-day New Year Grand Sumo Tournament.

Hawaiian-born yokozuna (grand champion) Musashimaru, who was upset on the opening day Sunday, picked up his first victory.

Wrestling before 11,000 spectators at the Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Arena in downtown Tokyo, Musashimaru, whose real name is Fiamalu Penitani, pushed down winless No. 2 maegashira (senior wrestler) Tamanoshima.

Newly promoted ozeki Tochiazuma fought off No. 3 maegashira Kaiho's initial charge of pulling attempts and sent him out, handing Kaiho his first defeat against one victory.

Chiyotaikai charged newly promoted Mongolian sekiwake (junior champion) Asashoryu with hand thrusts against his foe's throat and sent him out. Asashoryu, or Dolgorsvren Dagvadrj, is 1-1.

No. 2 maegashira Toki pulled down winless ozeki Musoyama for his first victory against one defeat.

Newly promoted komusubi (junior champion second class) Wakanosato, who defeated Musashimaru in the opening day, bulldozed out ozeki Kaio for his second victory. Kaio is 1-1.

Sekiwake Kotomitsuki grabbed winless No. 1 maegashira Akinoshima's belt and drove him out to stay unbeaten.

No. 3 maegashira Takanonami clamped newly promoted komusubi Kyokutenho's arms from outside and sent him out for his second victory against no defeats.

Kyokutenho, or Mongolian Tsevegnyam Nyamjav, is 0-2.

No. 4 maegashira Chiyotenzan charged winless No. 1 maegashira Kyokushuzan, or Batbayer Davaa, with a series of hand thrusts and shoved him out for his first victory against one defeat.

No. 15 maegashira Sentoryu, or American Henry Armstrong Miller from St. Louis, Missouri, crashed against No. 13 maegashira Hamanishiki and twisted him down for his second victory against no defeats. Hamanishiki is 1-1.

In the 26-member juryo division just below the senior makuuchi division, No. 5-ranked Kuniazuma, or Brazilian Vander Ramos, slapped down winless No. 7-ranked Daishi for his second victory against no defeats.
