TEAMING UP TO CLEAN UP

Melissa Chow dredged trash buried between the rocks of the breakwater yesterday at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor. Volunteers from the Honolulu Rotary Club and the Sierra Club get together to clean the harbor four times a year. Their last project was a Makiki Stream cleanup in November.

Hawaii Pacific University volunteers Diana Schaldenbrand, left, and Sarah Warner painted a classroom at Wahiawa Middle School yesterday as part of a new program called Hawaii 3R's. This project saved the state more than $120,000.
