UH alumnae
game on Sunday


The Hawaii Wahine alumnae basketball game will be played at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Center prior to UH's Western Athletic Conference game against Louisiana Tech.

Two former Wahine head coaches, Jerry Busone and Patsy Dung, will guide the two teams.

Players who have committed to play include Nani Cockett, Hedy Liu, Dana Dias, Kyla Evers, Dainora Puida, Fran Villarmia, Jen Kaeo, Melanie Azama, Lisa Mann, Lynette Liu, Da Houl and Shelly Fey.

Hawaiian Islanders tryouts Saturday

Invitational-only tryouts for the Hawaiian Islanders arenafootball2 league team are Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Central Oahu Regional park.

Fifty invited players will be trying out for the 19-person active roster.

The Islanders, led by coach Guy Benjamin, will also have an open tryout on Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Central Oahu park.

Boxing regionals in Pearl City

The 2002 USA Boxing Hawaii State/Regional Boxing Championships will be held at Team Tiger Gym in Pearl City from Jan. 17 through Jan. 19.

Dat Nguyen and Peter Costa are defending their championships, while nationally ranked boxers Kini Sofa, Glenn Miyose and Ronald Cordeiro are also scheduled to fight.

The winners will advance to the nationals, which will be held in Las Vegas or Colorado Springs, Colo.
