Fey paddles past Clark

Kelly Fey nipped Megan Clark by five seconds after eight miles to win the women's title in the second race of the canoe long course portion of the Po Ai Puni Series from Makai Pier to Kailua Beach yesterday.

Fey paddled the course in 1:15:28. Ann Farrell was nine seconds behind in third place.

Maui Kjeldsen easily won the men's race, finishing in just over an hour (1:00:24) to beat Mike Judd by 48 seconds. Kai Bartlett took third.

Steve Kelly broke an hour in his kayak, winning that race with a time of 59:50 to beat Mike Beyer. Mikala Hetland won the women's race by 47 seconds over Laura Spalding.

Paula Crabb and Kisi Haine won in the women's 2-person canoe, and George Leslie and Andrew Penny were the fastest men. Denise Darval and Earle Chang won the mixed race.

There was also a series of short-course (five miles) races from Waimanalo to Kailua Beach.

Sheri Broad won the canoe race and Joe Crofford beat Mike Neumann by more than a minute to win among the men.

James Roumasset and Jane Kirton teamed up to win the mixed canoe race, while Shannon Jenkins and Meredith Grimmer won among the women. Tom Connor and Vaimana Connor won the men's race.
