Jacob Kipi looked on as Romeo and Juliet, two land tortoises, took a walk in Manoa yesterday. Gayle Pali, shown holding Juliet below, said the tortoises weigh 25 pounds and eat "a lot" of grasses and hibiscus flowers.

Stormy weather conditions failed to stop Richard Mamuad and his daughter, Tiffany, from going to Ala Moana Beach Park yesterday. They also didn't keep Tiffany from being buried up to her neck in sand.




DEAD TREES REBORN AS ART

Artist Charles Rillamas worked on carving Hawaiian warriors out of wood at Kapiolani Park yesterday. Rillamas uses wood from fallen or dead trees and said he would never cut down a tree for his carvings. It takes him about 3 weeks to finish one.
