Kapolei loses varsity
debut to Mililani

Rashaun Broadus and Mililani welcomed Kapolei to the varsity basketball level yesterday with a 73-39 victory.

Broadus scored 20 of his game-high 22 points in the first half in the Oahu Interscholastic Association season-opener for both teams.

Kapolei, which opened its doors in the fall of 2000, fielded only a junior varsity team last year.

Broadus accounted for 14 of Mililani's 20 second-quarter points and knocked down three of the team's six 3-point goals.

Alex Patykula scored 12 points and Trey Brown added 10 for Mililani. E.J. Aton led Kapolei with 12 points.

Pearl City 51, Nanakuli 33: Michael Adams led the Chargers past the Golden Hawks with a game-high 13 points.

Seven of his points came in Pearl City's decisive second-quarter run. Pearl City led by three after the first period, and took control by outscoring Nanakuli, 19-5, in the second.

Kapena Wong scored 10 points for the Chargers, who hit three 3-point shots.

Rolando Celes led Nanakuli with 15 points and Alex Armstead added 11.

Campbell 56, Waialua 51: Gentel Morris hit for 13 of his 20 points after intermission as the Sabers rallied to beat the Bulldogs.

Morris scored nine points in the third quarter as Campbell erased a 23-20 halftime deficit to take the lead.

Jonathan Aceret led Waialua with 19 points and Daniel Jamora added 10 for the Bulldogs.

Radford 71, Waipahu 51: The Rams took an early lead and cruised to an easy home win over the Marauders.

Radford's Kula Tanuvasa led all scorers with 19 points. Chris Williams added 18 and James Johnson scored 12 for the Rams, who led 18-6 after the first quarter and 37-20 at halftime.

Thomas Mason scored 14 points for Waipahu. Chris Coloma scored 11 and Kenneth Cheers added 10.
