Sleeping past
oh-dark-thirtyNo more daily pre-dawn wake-ups for Lois Miyashiro as she's left the Q-Morning Zoo morning radio show on 93.1 KQMQ FM.
Her hours are more likely to shift to later parts of the day as she burns the midnight oil to complete work toward a journalism degree.
Miyashiro's last day was Friday, according to the show's ringleader, Jeff Kino. "We did the entire week promoting that Friday would be her last day and we had a big going away party for her at Sansei." He described the turnout as "huge."
"At this point, the show will just be me and (sidekick) Shawn (Ho) for at least a little while," Kino said.
While Miyashiro has left the radio station she has not left the airwaves, as she can be seen in TV commercials.
She plays the wife who would be unlikely to believe that her sleeping husband is dreaming and moaning about food from Zippy's. Miyashiro is also featured in a Sprint commercial. It begins with her and another actor locked in what looks like a physical embrace, but it turns out they are "connected" via their wireless phones.
New year, new job
Dave Kennedy's wife Robin gave him sage wisdom on Christmas Eve; "it's all about now and next," she said. One of her many "Robin-isms," he said. With such wifely counsel fresh in his head, Kennedy's new year's resolution became a decision to "give the Star-Bulletin and MidWeek the opportunity to exercise their first amendment rights," as the new advertising director for Oahu Publications Ltd. He had also been wooed by a weekly business publication in Honolulu.
Kennedy, who left an 18-year career with Gannett Publications Inc. in December, decided to stay in the daily newspaper game a few days ago. Most recently with the Honolulu Advertiser, Kennedy had previously served Gannett in Guam and Reno, spending the first four and a half years of his career in circulation before moving into advertising sales.
