2002 Airplanes taking down towers, bacteria invading our mail system, people trying to blow up aircraft with their shoes, a fallen economy ... that sums up 2001. But Hallelujah! There is good news!
Peer into the future
By Nancy Arcayna
narcayna@starbulletin.comThe Metal Snake may have tried to devour us in 2001, but those who read the cosmos predict that the Water Horse year, which begins not today but on Feb. 12, should bring tranquility and hope in 2002.
According to Niki Tattinger, an intuitive reader at Prosperity Corner, the Metal Snake year occurs on a 60-year cycle and is marked by war-like activity. These year tend to deliver deadly strikes. The stealthy Metal Snake was at work 60 years ago, on Dec. 7, 1941.
"Any time we close a snake year, the year that comes after is so much better. A horse year is a good successor because people settle down. ... The Water Horse brings generosity and more team spirit."
It's definitely time for a change. Here is what the seers say we can expect this year:
The Tarot cards
Cards laid down by Tattinger and D.J. Colbert show that we can expect a year of great growth. Finances will improve and travel will expand, they said. And local people with big ideas will be drawn into the limelight."The year of the snake is a tough one and we really felt it this past year ... with the economy and the terrorists," Tattinger said. "This year will be a year of productivity. People will pay more attention to their goals and will be able to achieve them."
"The economy will level off and we will see more visitors because people are feeling better about flying with all the changes that have been made. We will also see an increase in travel to the mainland ... people need to see the United States. We won't see people going overseas as much."
Colbert added, "Don't panic! There has already been a small burst in the economy and in the middle of the year, there will be an upward trend. By the end of the year, we should be just fine."
Tattinger predicts a very tight gubernatorial race, with many people registering to vote who never have before. "This year, people want control ... they want to participate," said Tattinger.
"Duke Bainum is the strong candidate in the race for mayor," added Colbert. "But, we may also see unexpected candidates."
Gambling will be a hot topic and may be included on the ballot, she added.
"We will see a re-establishment of the family. Americans have had a wake up call ... no more do we sleep so safely in our homes. ... People are trying to keep their families near and dear."
Tattinger believes the Sept. 11 tragedy will encourage couples to have children, even if they hadn't meant to before. "We are going to see another baby boom."
She also expects it will be a good year for new businesses, "because the Water Horse brings hope."
World issues will continue to surface. "Osama bin Laden started on a small scale, much like Hitler. But I think we have caught him in time. We will still have to watch the Olympics, the Super Bowl or anywhere that there are large masses of people. We definitely need extra security. I think people will be holding their breath until the Olympics is over," said Tattinger.
Colbert said the cards shows bin Laden is not in good health. "If he is captured, it will be a fluke. We may expect him to take his own life or die from illness."
Most of the military personnel sent to the Middle East are going to come back safe and sound," said Tattinger, but the crisis in Afghanistan will continue. "We will be in this for a couple of long years," said Colbert.
Tattinger also sees a greater camaraderie in the workplace. "People will appreciate their jobs more. And the unemployed will see the job market open up," she said.
Colbert sees big stars emerging from Hawaii. "People with bright and brilliant ideas present pilot projects that the whole nation will look at. Lots of attention will be shed on us," she said.
And football fans rejoice! According to Tattinger, "The 'Bows will do well and it appears June Jones will stay with us."
The Clairvoyant
Cheryl Niggle also predicts a positive year. "There is lots of controversy over the merger between Aloha and Hawaiian (airlines), but it is very good for the islands. They will not lay off. I see them expanding." Niggle believes the local carriers will even add flights to the South Pacific, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and Japan. Here is more of what Niggle expects:
>> In January, watch out when signing contracts, buying a home or making investments. "This is the time to review the past and revisit familiar places."
>> February is a grounding month. "Affections will be strong, making us focus more on love and making new commitments, renewing old relationships or cementing new ones."
>> March will bring a profound upsurge in the economy as visitors return.
>> April will be a fun month. "We will see lots of new things to give us a boost and help people relax and have fun. An emergence of people taking time off from work to spend time with family will be apparent. It's a good time to travel to foreign places too."
>> "Things will heat up in May. We may see some tension and war-type things, but they can be resolved. The islands will be a safe place to be. A behind-the-scenes scandal connected to the city may arise and could affect the political climate."
>> In June, "Hawaii will be rebounding strongly. We may see a breakdown of appliances and household things that can be easily replaced and this also helps the economy. ... For the most part, this will be a lighthearted month. People will be seeking physical, emotional and spiritual healing."
>> "At the beginning of July, we may see disruptions in air travel, but it feels safe. We will see an influx of tourists to the islands. July is a good month for the stock market. If people can hold on to their portfolios up to that point, they should rise dramatically. It's also a good month for checkbooks."
>> August will be the month for marriages. "Long-term commitments and births will also be on the rise."
>> September will bring fluctuations in the stock market. "If people hang in there, it should end up a good financial month."
>> By the end of the year, things should be looking up. "Our economy will be good and new industries come to Hawaii. Tourism is resumed and we will end the year on a good economic note."
The Astrologer
Sue Simmons, a numerologist and astrologer, explains that the theme for 2002 is cooperation and equality. "It is vital that all of the nations cooperate and treat each other with respect, and the sooner we see that, the easier things will be. Arrogance is out and cooperation and tolerance are in."According to Simmons, the year 2002 is a universal "four" year. "In Chinese and Japanese numerology four is the worst number, signifying death. In Western numerology the four is a grim, hard year with many limitations. Tax giveaways to corporations and the wealthy, together with big military spending, will have a devastating impact on our economy."
From an astrological point of view, Simmons, like other astrologers and psychics, sees the war continuing through 2003. "Nuclear war is a definite possibility, although it is possible that worry over nuclear war is as far as it goes."
"The person responsible for the anthrax scare will be found, but other biological scares, such as smallpox, will emerge."
Sabotage attempts against airliners will continue, said Simmons. "The danger will increase on days which have some significance to the American people." The Nov. 11, 2001, date of an airline crash is an example. Other dangerous dates include those when the United States issued hostile statements to Muslim countries, Simmons said.
