Off-Oahu sites accept yule
trees for recycling

New Year's Day is tomorrow, which means it's time to think about recycling your Christmas tree.

The state, counties and private businesses will be offering free Christmas tree recycling on the neighbor islands.

BIG ISLAND

Trees may be dropped off until Sunday at transfer stations in Kealakehe, Keauhou, Waimea, Hilo, Honokaa, Keaau, Pahoa and Waiohinu. Christmas trees with flocking or decorations will not be accepted. Trees will be processed into chips at the various sites. The chips can be picked up on Saturday and Jan. 8. For more information, call 961-8339.

MAUI

Trees will be collected on Saturday at Papa Avenue Soccer Field, Haiku Community Center and Up Country Community Center.

Trees may also be dropped off at the following locations:

>> Maui Earth Compost Co. in Kihei, starting Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

>> Maui E.K.O. from Monday to Sunday, 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

>> Campaign Recycle Maui, Monday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

>> Olowalu Recycling Center on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

>> Hana Landfill on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

KAUAI

Christmas trees and green waste are accepted daily at country transfer stations located in Hanapepe, Kapaa, Lihue and Hanalei.

Molokai Naiwa Landfill on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to noon.

LANAI

Lanai Co. Nursery from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
