Ho received his medical degree at the St. Louis University School of Medicine.
Ho has worked as an oncologist at Straub Clinic and Hospital since 1963. He is also a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Hawaii.
In 1991, Ho assembled an American Cancer Society Committee on Cancer Pain Management that put together recommendations on what the society can do to improve management of cancer pain in the United States.
Ho has been involved with the Asian and Pacific Islander National Cancer Survivor Network and APPEAL, an organization that works to decrease tobacco use among Asian Americans.
Ho is now working with Asian Americans to develop a support group for cancer patients in places such as Chinatown.
