Saturday, December 29, 2001 The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Hawaiian Airlines Inc., which last week announced it was merging with privately held rival Aloha Airlines, jumped 24.4 percent over the past five trading days to lead the way again among the 13 stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index. Hawaiian Airlines soars again
BancWest Corp., whose acquisition by French bank BNPParibas was finalized last week, has been dropped from the index, leaving it with 13 members.
Alexander & Baldwin Inc., which last week said 2002 profit would fall amid a tourism slowdown in Hawaii, rose 7.6 percent to claim the runner-up spot.
Aquasearch Inc., which earlier this month entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy, continued to slump as its stock fell 19.05 percent to 5 cents. Its stock has the worst loss in the index this year with a decline of 77.8 percent.
