Wondering how to recycle your Christmas tree? Putting a Christmas
tree out to pastureStar-Bulletin staff
Honolulu and state officials will provide 11 drop-off sites on Oahu for TreeCycling 2002, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5.
Christmas trees are processed into mulch for parks, botanical gardens and home use. Residents can pick up free mulch at Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden in Kaneohe, Kapaa Transfer Station in Kailua, Manoa Community Garden, Waimea Valley Adventure Park and Wahiawa Community Garden.
Tinsel, flocking, nails and ornament clips must be removed for trees to be accepted for recycling.
Residents whose homes are serviced by automated refuse collection also can leave their trees on the curbside for the city's twice-a-month green-waste recycling collection service. Check the sticker on your automated refuse collection bin for your green-waste collection schedule. Trees also may be taken to the city's Convenience Centers for Refuse & Recycling from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
