Kalanihuia takes helm
of hospital on Molokai

Associated Press

KAUNAKAKAI >> Molokai General Hospital has named Janice Kalanihuia as its new chief administrator, the hospital announced this week.

Kalanihuia is to assume her new duties Jan. 2.

She will be responsible for overseeing hospital operations and administrative functions, including inpatient and outpatient services, strategic and business planning and hospital communications.

Kalanihuia has worked in health care on Molokai since 1979 and last year was honored by the Hawaii Rural Health Association for her contributions to rural health.

The 30-bed Molokai General Hospital, operated by Honolulu-based Queen's Health Systems, is the only acute care clinic and emergency room on Molokai.

Five of the hospital's six nurses went on strike for five weeks in May and June before returning to work without a contract. The nurses reached a new contract with the hospital in July.
