Football logic is truly offensive

Not that anyone should rely on pro football commentators for logical arguments, but recently two less-astute observations made me wonder if they dressed themselves in the morning.
First, in one game, a commentator pointed out that one team's offense controlled the ball for a large portion of the game, thereby keeping the other team's defense on the field for a long time, and tiring them out. Sprinting 50 yards must be a refreshing and relaxing experience if you're on offense.
The other perplexing comment regards the St. Louis Rams' high-octane offense. Frequently I hear the oft-repeated maxim that defenses feel better about facing the Rams on natural grass rather than artificial turf because of the Rams' overall team speed. What time-space distortions let the Rams enjoy the speed-advantage of artificial turf while opponents are simultaneously hampered by having to defend them on grass?
