A pretzel treat
for chocoholics


"The Electric Kitchen" airing in the first half of December features Hawaiian Electric Co. employee Letitia Fujieki with gift-giving ideas.

"Electric Kitchen" airs at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, 8:30 p.m. Monday, 5 p.m. Tuesday and 6 p.m. Thursday on Oceanic Cable Channel 16.

It also airs on Maui at 8:30 p.m. Thursday on Calabash Channel 44 (52 in Lahaina) and on the Big Island at 5 p.m. Monday and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Na Leo o Hawaii Channel 55 in Hilo and Kona.

Here are some of Fujieki's recipes. All the recipes from the show, as well as an archive of recipes dating to 1995, are available at the Hawaiian Electric Co. Web site, www.heco.com.´

White Chocolate Pretzel Clusters

1 (10 ounce) package butter-flavored pretzel sticks
3 cups crisp rice cereal
1 pound white chocolate
Colored candy sprinkles

Break pretzels into thirds; combine with the cereal.

In a large microwave-safe bowl, microwave white chocolate at 30 percent power, stirring occasionally, until smooth. Add pretzel mixture to melted chocolate; mix to coat. Spoon into mini-cupcake liners. Sprinkle with candy sprinkles. Chill 10 minutes. Store in airtight containers. Makes 4 dozen.

Sweet Party mix

1 (10 ounce) package corn chips
1 (6 ounce) package cone-shaped corn cereal
1 (12 ounce) box corn and rice cereal squares
1/2 (10 ounce) package butter-flavored pretzel sticks
1/2 (11 ounce) package cheese-flavored puffs
1-1/2 cups butter
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons garlic powder
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Spray a large, deep baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.

Combine chips, cereals, pretzels and cheese puffs in prepared pan.

In a saucepan, heat butter with sugar, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce; stir until sugar dissolves. Pour over cereal mixture; mix lightly. Bake uncovered for 1 hour; mix lightly every 15 minutes. Cool and store in airtight containers. Makes 7 quarts.
