Faster than
the speed of film

One hears quite a bit of hue and cry lately over the traffic cameras to be installed at some Oahu intersections. These traffic cameras are designed to get irrefutable evidence so the state can ticket speeders and those who run red lights. The camera takes a picture of the offending vehicle, and the owner is ticketed by mail.

I'm of two minds about this. I'm in favor of catching every red-light runner in the state (send 'em to the gallows, I say), but I don't think it's necessary to take pictures of speeders. I probably feel this way because I don't run red lights, but I do speed.

Speeding isn't really a big problem. It would be perfectly safe for me to speed if everyone would just get out of my way. On the other hand, I drive one of two comparatively tiny vehicles: a Mazda Miata and a Harley-Davidson XL1200. So if someone runs a red light and nails me at an intersection, I'm toast, unless I'm speeding, in which case I might be able to get through the intersection too fast for them to hit me.
