Savovic, UH still waiting
for word from NCAA

Another day of silence from the NCAA meant another day of uncertainty for Hawaii senior guard Predrag Savovic.

Hawaii officials had hoped to hear something regarding the eligibility status of the Yugoslavian national who has sat out the Rainbows' first six games. Unless UH's liaison in the NCAA decides to work this weekend, Savovic likely will miss Monday's game against Alcorn State.

"From our research, we think Savo played in 35 games over three years," said Hawaii coach Riley Wallace. "At 20 percent (penalty), that would make it seven games."

Having Savovic back for Friday's game with San Diego State would please Wallace. The Aztecs are 4-3 heading into tonight's game with No. 21 Fresno State.

"Savo wears people down on defense," Wallace said after yesterday's practice. "We could definitely use him. But once we have him back, there will be no more excuse for us not to do well."

Junior forward Luc-Arthur Vebobe will make his debut in a Rainbow uniform against Alcorn State. The NCAA ruled Thursday that the French national's penalty would be limited to the six games he had already missed.
