Hawaii quarterback Nick Rolovich and Maryknoll High School cross country standout Christal Cuadra are the outstanding male and female athletes for November. Quarterback Club honors
Rolovich, CuadraThe selections were made by the Hawaii Sports Person of the Month Committee.
Rolovich guided the Warriors to three wins and threw for over 500 yards twice.
Cuadra won the state girls cross country championship convincingly, capping an undefeated year.
The two honorees will be recognized at Monday's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.
Moanalua's Smith plays for Chapman University
Korey Smith, a sophomore defensive back from Moanalua High School, had 13 unassisted tackles and six assisted tackles for the Chapman University Panthers this past season. He had one sack for a 1-yard loss and was credited with breaking up two pass plays.Kelika Higa, a freshman quarterback from St. Louis, and Tui Scanlan, a freshman defensive end, redshirted. Higa is likely to be the backup quarterback next season.
Blaine Dydasco, a sophomore wide receiver from St. Louis, did not see any action for the 3-6 Panthers.
Marvin Williams, a junior wide receiver from Moanalua who did not play, left the team in midseason.
Volleyball tournament coming up in Waimea
Some of the best beach players in the world will compete in the ASTON Resorts/Waimea Plantation Cottages Men's Beach Volleyball Tournament, Dec. 15-16 on Kauai.2000 Olympian Kevin Wong and teammate Stein Metzger -- both from Hawaii -- will compete in the tournament.
Matches begin at 9 a.m. on both days. The championship match is scheduled for Dec. 16 at 2:15 p.m. Admission is free.
The players will hold a free youth clinic at Waimea Plantation Cottages at 4 p.m. on Dec. 14.
Boxing match canceled
Hawaii Professional Boxing, Inc., has canceled its proposed Dec. 18 boxing show at the Hawaii Convention Center.
