How to zip through
the airport

Here's a suggestion to ease your way through airport security if you plan to fly out of the islands for the holidays -- or any other time. You will be asked for photo identification at least three times -- when you check in, when you go through the X-ray screening of your carry-on bag and when you board the plane.

To avoid having to dig the photo ID out of purse or wallet each time, get one of those plastic name tag holders that you hang around your neck at a convention or other gathering. Slip your drivers license or other official ID into that, maybe back to back with an airline frequent-flier card. When asked for ID, it's right there, handy.

We did this on a recent flight to Atlanta and back and were uniformly greeted by security and airline people with comments like "what a good idea." Perhaps the airlines should hand out a bunch of these with their logo imprinted and get a bit of advertising.
