With one month to go in the contest, Bradley Pharmaceuticals Inc. is the runaway leader for the $500 first-place prize.
But the contest is far from over since six entrants tapped the company to turn in the best stock performance for the six-month period starting July 1.
The six votes equal or surpass those received by any other company's stock except Lucent Technologies Inc., which chalked up 18, Cisco Systems Inc., which garnered 11, and Corning Inc., which received nine. Palm Inc., Microsoft Corp., Intel Corp. and Pfizer Inc. also received six each.
Bradley, which markets over-the-counter and prescription pharmaceutical and health-related products, is up 226.2 percent over the second half of this year and holds a commanding lead over Concurrent Computer Corp., which is up 110.1 percent. Concurrent provides computer systems for the video-on- demand market and earlier this week was selected by Time Warner Cable to launch the services for its Houston division.
Bradley Pharmaceuticals, whose stock is up 1,094.7 percent since the beginning of the year, was chosen by Roland Corpuz of Waianae, Gordon Au of Honolulu, Takashi Kamisato of Waipahu, James Kaneshiro of Honolulu, Alan Tashiro of Honolulu and Meg Lee of Mililani.
Concurrent, up 173.7 percent this year, was picked by Darryl Fennie of Honolulu.
Merit Medical Systems Inc., the midpoint leader with a 111.1 percent gain, has slipped to fourth and is up 63 percent. Merit, which manufactures and markets disposable products used in cardiology and radiology procedures, is up 226 percent this year. It was picked by Honolulu's Frank Yap.
Hollywood Entertainment Corp., up 76.1 percent since July 1 and 1,302.4 percent since the start of the year, is in third place. Hollywood Entertainment, which owns and operates video retail stores, was chosen by Harrison Young of Kailua.
