Saturday, December 1, 2001 The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Barnwell Industries Inc., whose real estate development partnership ended an 8-year legal battle with the state by obtaining reissuance of development entitlements on Kona residential property near the Hualalai Resort, jumped 8.82 percent this week to lead 13 other stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index. The Honolulu-based company, whose primary business is oil and gas exploration, also restructured remaining options with a development firm that will facilitate Barnwell development within Hualalai Resort and provide more even annual cash flow for the company.
Maui Land & Pineapple Co. was second with a gain of 4.64 percent while Schuler Homes Inc., which is being acquired by mainland homebuilder D.R. Horton Inc. in a $1.2 billion deal expected to close in January, was next with a 4.37 percent rise.
Kauai shrimp producer Ceatech USA Inc. was the worst performer with a drop of 17.65 percent.
