which opens Saturday. City worker Alex Ching was
among those adjusting the colorful displays.

SWIM TIME ARRIVES
FOR MAKIKI'S NEW POOL

art
GEORGE F. LEE / GLEE@STARBULLETIN.COM
The pool at Makiki District Park opened this week, although no
formal blessing is slated until at least the second week of December.
Enjoying the pool yesterday was Makiki resident Sarah Kalawa,
11, who basked in the late afternoon sun. While the pool appeared
to be completed in September, the city chose to increase the size
of the pool's back-flush filter to make it operate better, Managing
Director Ben Lee said. Makiki Councilman Andy Mirikitani
charged the Harris administration last week with putting off
opening the pool until he is sentenced in federal court
Tuesday for receiving kickbacks for bonuses given to
employees. Lee denied the charge yesterday. Below,
Jesse Olivera and Matthew Murphy-Gomes
enjoy the water.
