at Leeward

Choreographer Donald Byrd brings his company Donald Byrd/The Group to Leeward Community College Theatre at 7 p.m. today, in a program that includes "Stars and Stripes," with music by John Philip Sousa; "A Folk Dance," with music by Mio Morales; "A Gentle Prelude," with music by Duke Ellington; and "Jazz I," with music by Max Roach. Byrd will conduct a question-and-answer session after the performance.

Byrd started his company in L.A. in 1978, moving it to New York in 1983. He has created more than 80 works for his company and others, including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Atlanta Ballet and Philadelphia Dance Company.

Tickets are $25 general; $20 for seniors, students and military. Call 455-0385.

'Moon over Missouri'

The USS Missouri Memorial Association is calling "All Hands on Deck" for an evening of food, fun and dancing from 6 to 9 p.m. today. "Moon Over Missouri" will take place on the fantail of "America's last great battleship." The cost is $75 per person, which is tax deductible.

There will be music by Clear Sky, and pupu and desserts sponsored by Indigo, Kahala Caterers and JTY International.

'Portraits of Tahiti'

Photographer Jon Mozo has made his reputation through surf pictures, but on a trip to Tahiti, he was equally taken by the island's people, the subject of his photo exhibit opening tomorrow at the Pacific American Gallery, 925 Bethel St. Suite 100.

He will talk about his work and do signings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday. He'll also be at the gallery from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 7.

The show runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 17. Call 533-2836.
