Melveen won’t let
show go on without her

Star-Bulletin

The show must go on, said singer Melveen Leed, who suffered a heart attack Tuesday afternoon while attending the burial service of her friend and partner in the Local Divas, Loyal Garner.

The Divas, including Nohelani Cypriano and Carole Kai, were scheduled to perform "This One's For You, Loyal!," at 7:30 p.m. today in the Sheraton Waikiki Hawaii Ballroom, but the concert has been postponed, rescheduled for Dec. 19, while Leed recuperates.

True to her dynamic personality, Leed warned the other divas , "Don't you dare do anything without me, I will be there!"

Leed, who suffered from chest pains while at Garner's service, was sent to Castle Medical Center emergency, where she was diagnosed with having a mild heart attack, or in medical terms, a myocardial infraction.

Although doctors wanted to keep her under medical observation for a couple of days, Dr. Craig Thomas, head of Hawaii Emergency Physicians Association said, "I feel that Ms. Leed could be well enough to perform at a mid-December concert date."

The concert, also featuring special guest Mel Cabang, is a tribute to Garner and funds raised were to go toward paying down Garner's medical expenses after her long battle with cancer.

Kai and Cypriano issued an apology for the rescheduling and said they hoped that those unable to attend on Dec. 19 would consider giving the tickets as a Christmas gift to a loved one.
