A Hawaii Kai couple were bound and gagged early yesterday in a home invasion robbery at their Kalama Valley residence, police said. Their 18-year-old son also was bound and gagged in the robbery.

Police said the family was asleep in their Kaeleku Street home when a masked gunman broke in sometime before 2:30 a.m.

The robber bound and gagged the son, then led him to his parents' bedroom, police said. The robber then bound and gagged the parents.

The robber took jewelry and other items from the house then fled in an unknown direction during the overnight storm, police said.

The robber is described as between 20 and 30 years old, 5 feet 7 inches, 160 pounds with a medium build and brown eyes.

He was wearing a ski mask and gloves and was armed with a shotgun or rifle, police said.

Police are asking anyone who may have noticed a man or a vehicle in the 1100 block of Kaeleku Street between 10 p.m. Monday and 3 a.m. yesterday to call Detective Bruce Swann at 529-3357 or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
