Gardner McKay will be remembered in "A Celebration of Gardner McKay's Life," from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Dec. 8 at Diamond Head Theatre, 520 Makapuu Ave.

McKay, 69, of Koko Head, an actor, author, artist, athlete, adventurer and playwright, died last Wednesday at home after a battle with prostate cancer. He was born George Cadogan Gardner McKay in New York City.

McKay gained fame as the star of the 1960s television series "Adventures in Paradise." As an accomplished author, McKay's output included the novels "Toyer," "The Last American" and "Trompe L'Oeil," and dozens of plays. Also a recognized sculptor, his work is on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. More recently, his popular radio program "Stories on the Wind," on which he read his own fables and mood pieces, was heard on Hawaii Public Radio for almost seven years.

He is survived by wife Madeleine, brother Hugh Dean McKay, son Tristan Gardner Lebaile, daughter Liza McKay Petree and granddaughter Cheyenne Petree.

Services will include singing, readings from some of McKay's works, and recordings from his radio program. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hawaii Public Radio.

Emily Amaral, 78, of Mountain View, Hawaii, a retired factory worker for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corp., died Nov. 17 in St. Francis Medical Center. She was born in Olaa. Seikichi Edward Asato, 83, of Aiea, a retired crane operator for Hawaii State Steel, died last Wednesday. He was born in Wahiawa.
