Patriotic colors of red, white and blue are expected to dominate most of the holiday exhibits at the 17th Annual Honolulu City Lights at Honolulu Hale from next Saturday to Jan. 2.

Activities, food booths and an "Island Rhythm Concert" will kick off the event at Sky Gate starting at 3 p.m. followed by a special holiday service at Kawaiahao Church at 5 p.m.

At 6 p.m., the Brothers Cazimero will celebrate the tree-lighting ceremony with a performance of "Honolulu City Lights" and a medley of Christmas songs.

Also, lights in the downtown area will be turned on as Mayor Jeremy Harris switches on the lights on the 55-foot Norfolk Island pine tree fronting Honolulu Hale. Restaurant Row businesses plan to extend a corridor of lights toward Ala Moana.

Holiday exhibits will be displayed for four weeks.

Following the lighting ceremony next Saturday, the Public Workers Electric Light Parade will pass in front of Honolulu Hale. Marching bands from Aiea, Baldwin, Castle, Farrington, Iolani, Kahuku, Kailua, Leilehua, Nanakuli and Waianae high schools will join the Royal Hawaiian Band, Holy Family Academy and Dole Middle School Band.

More than 35 decorated floats plan to participate in the parade. Santa Claus is expected to arrive at Sky Gate at 7:30 p.m. to hear children's Christmas wishes until 9 p.m.

A two-hour concert presented by Tom Moffatt Productions will include entertainment by Na Hoku Hanohano Award winners Maunalua, Colon, DisGuyz, Tino & the Rhythm Klub, Anelaikalani, Reign, Marty Dread and Moke Boy.

Those who are unable to attend can watch the festivities next Saturday on Channel 54 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and following the KITV-4 newscast from 7 to 8 p.m.

Holiday entertainment and choir performances will be presented nightly in the Honolulu Hale courtyard until Jan. 2. For more information, call the mayor's Culture and Arts Hotline at 527-5666.
