HPU in, BYUH snubbed

No. 15 Hawaii Pacific earned the fourth seed at the NCAA II Pacific volleyball regional Nov. 15-17 at San Bernardino, Calif.

The Sea Warriors moved up four spots in the regional poll, passing fifth seed Seattle Pacific and sixth seed Cal State Los Angeles.

Cal State San Bernardino took the top spot, and will share a bye with No. 2 UC San Diego. Western Washington is seeded third.

Hawaii Pacific will play Seattle Pacific in the first round. The Falcons have never beaten the Sea Warriors in four tries.

Should HPU win, it would play Cal State San Bernardino, who has also never beaten the Sea Warriors.

Brigham Young-Hawaii did not make the cut despite beating HPU twice this year.

Friis, Eakin are Hawaii's ultimate off-road runners

Christian Friis won the Niketown Ultimate Off-Road Challenge at Kualoa Ranch yesterday, running eight miles in 53 minutes, 44.5 seconds. Chris Larson was second and Michael Georgi was third.

Tina Eakin of Mililani was the fastest woman, running the course in 1:02:34 to beat Katherine Derrick and third-place finisher Marcha Durbin.

Clint Sheeley and Corina Bruckner won the four-mile run/walk.

Mountainman triathlon coming: Kualoa Ranch will be the site of the Pflueger Honda Mountainman Triathlon on Nov. 18.

The event calls for a swim of 500 meters, a 10-mile mountain bike ride and a four-mile run.
