The University of Hawaii's women's cross country team may have seen its season end with an 10th place finish in the NCAA West regional at the Randolph North Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz. Smith leads Hawaii in
final team meetCheryl Smith led the Wahine for the fourth straight race, running the six kilometers in 21:36.9 for eighth place overall.
Fellow seniors Casey McGuire-Turcotte and Courtney Barlow finished 20th and 74th.
Because only the top two teams -- Stanford and Arizona -- and four individuals earn automatic berths to the national championships in Greenville, S.C. on Nov. 19, Smith will have to wait for an at-large bid.
Diane Kohara, Teryn Bentley, Jennifer Crumley and Brittany Keith also ran for the Wahine, who totaled 295 points with an average time of 23:23.7.
