The traditional Veterans Day ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. and include presentation of wreaths by various veterans organizations, a 21-gun salute and a flyover by Hawaii Air National Guard F-15 combat jets.
At 1 p.m. at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe, Lt. Gov. Mazie Hirono will be the guest speaker.
Remarks will also be given by Maj. Gen. Edward Correa Jr., state adjutant general.
Hirono and Correa will lay a wreath at the cemetery's Memorial Plaza to commemorate Veterans Day and the two-month anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The ceremony at 45-349 Kamehameha Hwy. includes a parade of flags and a presentation of lei by Hawaii's veterans organizations, music by the 111th Army Band of the Hawaii Army National Guard, and a 21-gun salute.
Veterans Day is the one day each year that is set aside to honor those "who are willing to put their lives on the line so everyone else can live in safety and security," said Maj. Charles Anthony, spokesman for the state Department of Defense.
Civilian attendees are asked to wear aloha attire.
Military attendees are asked to wear Service Dress, Class A or its equivalent.
