The Hawaii women's golf team placed 18th in a 19-team field in the Rainbow Wahine Fall Golf Classic. The Wahine carded a 970 total in the 54-hole event held at the windy and rainy Kapolei Golf Course.

New Mexico won the event by shooting a final-round 288 yesterday for a three-day total of 884. It was the second-lowest team total in the history of the event. Lorena Ochoa of Arizona won the individual medalist. She shot a 69 to finish at 218. Melanie Matsumura had the best three-day total for the Wahine. She fired a 233, good enough for a tie for 32nd.

"We didn't play well yesterday," Wahine head coach Marge Stubblefield said yesterday. "But today, they came back and scored better."

Arizona finished second overall at 905 with California placing third at 911.
