Eight Oahu Interscholastic Association schools survived the regular season to advance to the playoffs, while two Interscholastic League of Honolulu powers face a winner-take-all battle this week.
The OIA squads begin their quest for a share of the league championship in quarterfinal games Thursday and Saturday.
The winners not only move on to the OIA championship doubleheader on Nov. 9, but also earn places in the state tournament.
OIA Red Conference champion Kahuku is the top seed and will face Roosevelt (third in the OIA White Conference) at 5 p.m. Thursday at Aloha Stadium. A matchup between OIA White champ Aiea and Waianae (fourth in OIA Red) will follow at 7:30.
Castle (second OIA Red) faces Waipahu (second OIA White) at 5 p.m. Saturday at Mililani. Kailua (third OIA Red) and Mililani (fifth OIA Red) meet for the second time this season at 7:30 at Moanalua.
The ILH season ends Friday with what amounts to a playoff game.
Kamehameha and St. Louis meet in the second game of an ILH doubleheader at 7:30 p.m., with the winner claiming the league championship and the ILH's lone state tournament berth. The loser's season is over.
The Warriors and Crusaders played to a 24-24 tie earlier this season and set up the showdown by taking care of business last Friday at Kaiser Stadium. St. Louis continued its domination of Damien with a 69-0 win, while Kamehameha held off an Iolani comeback to prevail 28-14.
One seat for the state tournament has already been filled. Waimea will represent the Kauai Interscholastic Federation after clinching its 10th consecutive league championship. The Menehunes maintained their place atop the KIF with a 21-0 win over Kauai.
The Maui Interscholastic League championship will come down to a title game Nov. 9 between first-round winner Lahainaluna and second-round champ Baldwin.
Baldwin clinched the second-round title Saturday with a 13-9 comeback win over archrival Maui.
Konawaena remains the lone undefeated team in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation. The Wildcats defeated Hawaii Prep, 29-21, on Saturday.
