Peterson has notched 500 victories over her 24 years, losing only 231 times for a .683 percentage. This year, Peterson's Vulcans are 13-13 with five regular-season matches remaining. Chaminade dropped to 6-14.
The national NCAA II record for career wins is held by Central Missouri State's Peggy Martin, who is still active and has put together 864 wins in 26 years.
Emily Hutchinson led the way for the Vulcans, burying 19 kills while committing only five errors on 37 attempts. Sara Pilgreen was nearly as effective, scoring 18 kills on 42 attempts.
Sophomore setter Megan Denman dished out 63 assists in the five games, spreading them out among seven different hitters.
Hawaii-Hilo won the first game by seven points but let Chaminade take the advantage by dropping the next two. Hilo won the fourth game by three points to force a fifth game.
Chaminade fought to aloha ball with a 14-13 lead in the final game, but UHH tied it and eventually won 18-16 when Elena Salvador scored on a putback following a service error.
Julianne Hastert led the Silverswords with 21 kills and Janeen Waialae chipped in 58 assists. Chaminade was outhit .300-.233 and outblocked 11-6.
Mason leads Vulcans to 14th place at Stanford
Nick Mason shot a 6-over-par 219 to finish in 43rd place for the Hawaii-Hilo golf team at the Nelson hosted by Stanford University yesterday.The Vulcans finished 14th in the 15-team field.
Tysen Shinaut finished in 48th, while Garrett Okamura finished 63rd, Chris Keiter came in 78th and Brian Okumura was 79th to round out the squad.
Harada heading back to Bela Karolyi camp
Megan Harada of Manoa has earned the right to attend the Talent Opportunity Program national gymnastics training camp Dec. 5-9 at the Bela Karolyi Gymnastics Camp in Texas.Harada competes for the Hawaiian Island Twisters under coach Joe Rapp.
Ndiaye, Schenck capture tennis titles
Daouda Ndiaye and Sylvia Schenck won the Hawaii Tennis Circuit Championship singles titles at Barbers Point yesterday.Ndiaye outlasted Erik Sandblom 2-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5) in the men's final, while Schenck won the women's final match by default over Nina Wenger.
Ndiaye teamed with Sandblom to capture the men's doubles championship by dropping CJ Colburn and Neil Haunga 6-4, 6-4.
Sofia Hoglund and Wenger defeated Chloe Bihag and Heid 6-3, 6-1 for the women's doubles title.
