THE GAME will linger
in our minds awhile

THE plan was to use the day off to finally write about something other than football.

Hahahahahaha. That's impossible now.

Not after THE GAME.

And as another day goes by, as it all settles and soaks in, it continues to get even better and better.

>> Look at this guy. On yesterday's front page, Eric Oneken was one of several people who admitted to playing hooky from work to watch the game on a big screen TV.

"I heard June Jones on TV saying that people should take off of work and come support the team," he said. "So here I am."

No, the coach said to take off of work so you can actually go to THE GAME. Not take off work and go the bar!

Nice try, though. Gotta give the guy credit.

>> What is all this talk that nobody expected Nate Jackson to play? Who didn't expect Nate Jackson to play? You knew Nate Jackson was going to play.

>> What is Chad Owens doing returning kicks?

That guy has made himself into a valuable player through sheer effort.

He could easily have spent the year on the bench, but he wasn't going to stand for that. Instead he's Hawaii's thrill ride.

>> Mike Bass. Mike Bass. Mike Bass. Mike Bass.

>> All the pieces added up. You knew what was going to happen, just not in time. Shawn Withy-Allen? Who's that in the backfield, No. 6? No. 5? That's Chad Kapanui! So that means ...

And the ball just floated.

"We didn't even want to run that play in practice," Jones said.

Perfect.

>> "Rolo," Manly Kanoa said.

>> "Rolo," Ashley Lelie said.

>> You knew David Carr had one last play left in him.

>> But only one.

>> People were on their feet and jumping. And the press box was bouncing. It was all going to come down.

>> From a reader (that was fast!): "I was so happy when the "LET'S GO BOWS" chant finally started. It was something that brought the fans together and helped connect us with our guys. Something that said, 'Hey we KNOW you guys can DO IT!' It was 'chicken skin' ... It was 'raising the dead.'

"RRRRAAAIIIIIINNNBOOWWSS! ... RRRRAAAIIIIIINNNBOOWWSS!" (To the tune of the "Darryl" chant.)
