Heather Ho scholarship
fund nets $40,000 in S.F.

THEY raised $40,000 for a scholarship in the name of Heather Ho, the former Punahou student who was killed in the World Trade Center terrorist attack. The fund-raiser was held at Boulevard, the San Francisco restaurant where Heather was a rising star before being lured away by Windows of the World in N.Y. One of those attending the Boulevard brunch was Howie Mayser, the bartender who was behind the plank at the Hard Rock Cafe when it first opened at the corner of Kapiolani and Kalakaua. I ran into him during my recent S.F. trip tending bar at 24, the restaurant in PacBell Park named for Willie Mays' old number. Howie reports he had met and commiserated with Heather's dad, Stuart Ho, at the Boulevard brunch ...

IF the Honolulu mayor's race continues to heat up, former isle resident Larry Beck may be talked into coming back and running. You may recall Beck, who is a nudist and who ran the Hawaii Nudist Park on the North Shore, who tried to win the candidacy of the Democratic Party in the 1980 mayor race. He claims to be the only one running for office with nothing to hide, a true believer in the sunshine law. Beck and wife Pru just returned to Florida for the winter after a long, hot summer naked in the South of France ...

WANT to see Ballet Hawaii free? You can see "Jeunesse" ("Youth") at the Ala Moana Center Stage on Nov. 4 at 11:30 a.m., featuring "The Stars and Stripes Forever" ballet choreographed by Pamela Taylor-Tongg ... And while designer Anne Namba may be an influence on her 10-year-old ballet dancing daughter, Roxanne, she didn't design the knockout dress Roxy wore to a ballet party. The youngster borrowed a page from mom's book and designed it herself ...

Fo' goodness sake

OLD-TIMERS will never forget the enduring harmonies of the Invitations group in the '50s and '60s, and now the founder of the group, Buddy Fo, has departed his Montana home and returned to the Isle showbiz scene. For the past few weeks, he's been featured in the Don Ho show at the Waikiki Beachcomber. In addition, Fo will be kicking off an Aloha Friday Pau Hana spot today at Jaron's in Kailua. He'll talk story about the old days and make music with his ukulele and brother Nolan George on bass ...

GENERALLY billed as "The World's Greatest Mime," Marcel Marceau is making his Hawaii debut Nov. 1 and 2 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall at the age of 78. One thing you know you'll be spared in a load of palaver, as Marceau traditionally never speaks a word during his entire show. Another recent Hawaii performer, illusionist David Copperfield, saw the mime when he was 19, said, "I make the visible invisible" while Marceau "makes the invisible visible." ...

Case study

THERE'S an exclusive, invitation-only organization called "Who's Who in Luxury Real Estate," made up of the top 500 luxury brokers world-wide. Recently inducted in the group was Patricia Case of Case Properties. Her company consistently places in the top 3 percent locally, and Patricia in the top 10 of 4,000 Oahu brokers for sales production. It's a nifty group for those who deal in pricey real estate, of which we have plenty locally ...
