Robin Kitsu was overcome with emotion yesterday after being
announced the recipient of the Milken Family Foundation
National Educator Award. Kitsu, an English teacher at
Nanakuli High and Intermediate School, is Hawaii's
second winner of the award, worth $25,000. Kitsu
has produced more than 40 musical and dramatic
performances in the past six years, and his students'
video news programs and newspaper have garnered
prizes. Since 1990, Hawaii has been part of the
Milken award, whose mission is to strengthen
the education profession. Hawaii's winners will
be honored at a luncheon in Honolulu on Dec. 1
and attend a national ceremony and conference
in Los Angeles next summer.
