TULSA, Okla. >> The Hawaii football team arrived here yesterday morning and practiced for an hour and 15 minutes last night in preparation for tomorrow's game against Tulsa.

Starting quarterback Tim Chang threw passes throughout practice, unlike Wednesday, when he rested his right (throwing) wrist, which has caused him to miss two games.

Coach June Jones has said Chang will start tomorrow, but also said backup Nick Rolovich is ready in case Chang isn't.

"(Chang) threw well today," Jones said after practice last night. "So did Nick. We'll see how it is (after practice today)."

Road Warriors -- and Hurricane:

The visiting team has won the last two games of the Hawaii-Tulsa series.

Last fall, the Golden Hurricane beat the Warriors 24-14 at Aloha Stadium as Donald Shoals scored on a 41-yard punt return and a 10-yard pass from Josh Blankenship.

In 1999, UH beat Tulsa 35-21 at Skelly Stadium. It was one of three Hawaii road victories without a loss that season.

Scouting report:

John Peterson, regional scout for the Seattle Seahawks, observed the Warriors' practice last night.

He said he is evaluating safety Nate Jackson, safety Robert Grant and offensive lineman Manly Kanoa.

Short yardage:

Tulsa quarterbacks Josh Blankenship and Tyler Gooch played under coach Jim Blankenship, Josh's father, at Tulsa's Union High School. So did Tulsa tight end Caleb Blankenship, Josh's brother and Jim's son. ... UH's Mat McBriar has punted for only a 35.8 yard average. But the Warriors have covered his kicks extremely well, allowing an average of 2.1 return yards on 20 punts. ... Hawaii's 59-point margin of victory last Saturday against UTEP was its largest against a Division I-A opponent. ... Hawaii's Ashley Lelie is 29th all-time in the WAC with 149 receptions. Tulsa's Shoals is 33rd with 147. ... The Warriors are second in the conference with 17 sacks, and have gotten the most yardage on them with 106. The Hurricane are eighth in the league with seven sacks.

[DIVISION II NOTEBOOK]

Hawaii Pacific

The Sea Warrior volleyball team dropped five spots to No. 9 in the Division II Top 25 poll this week. It is the first time since October 1998 that the Lady Sea Warriors have not been ranked in the top five.

HPU, the defending Division II national champion, lost consecutive matches to Hawaii-Hilo and Brigham Young-Hawaii last week.

Sea Warrior cross country star Christian Madsen will be going for his fifth win in six cross country races this weekend as all four local schools compete in the Pacific West Conference Championship tomorrow at HPU's Windward Campus course. Behind Madsen's dominance, the Sea Warrior men as a whole have also been strong, finishing out of the top spot in the team scores only once.

HPU's women have had three second-place team finishes to go along with two firsts this year, but two of those runner-up results were handed to them by Division I Hawaii. The Lady Sea Warriors have finished as the top Division II team in four of the five races they've competed in entering the championship.

Chaminade

The Silverswords are looking to even up their five-game season series with BYUH in water polo tonight as the teams hook up at 6:30 at Kaimuki High School's pool. The Seasiders went up 2-1 in the series with an easy 15-6 win the last time the two met. BYUH also took the first game of the year, while Chaminade took the second. Both the Silverswords (6-7) and the Seasiders (10-11) have the opportunity to get to .500 on the season with a victory tonight.

Brigham Young-Hawaii

The Seasider volleyball team is in second place in the conference after sweeps over HPU and Hilo, and has a chance to wrest the regular-season crown away from the Sea Warriors for the first time in two years.

There is no offseason for the Seasiders' tennis program. Three of the team's brightest are in McKinney, Texas, this week trying to earn berths in the NCAA Division I tournament next month.

Jan Krejci has two chances to make it to the elite tournament, as he is playing singles and teaming with Peter Madarassy in the doubles competition. On the women's side, Adrienn Hegedus is trying to follow in the footsteps of Petra Gaspar by qualifying for the tournament in singles.

The dunk contest at the basketball program's midnight madness was won by 6-foot-3 freshman Shawn Broadnax, while Kelii Naiha won the 3-point contest.

Hawaii-Hilo

Brady Hyde won the 3-point competition at Sunday's midnight madness and Kyle Bartholomew took the dunk competition. In the game, David LaQua dunked the ball with time running out to seal a 36-31 win for the white team over the black. The team has moved its Nov. 19 contest to Maui, where four-year starter Scott Prather can play in his hometown. There will be an alumni game Nov. 10 at 7:15 p.m.

[TOP PERFORMERS]

Ashley Moeai, BYUH volleyball: The sophomore outside hitter put down 34 kills last week in a pair of conference wins, including 16 and seven digs against Hawaii Pacific on Friday.

Nina Christensen, HPU cross country: The gap between Christensen and Hawaii's Cheryl Smith narrowed even more last week, with Christensen falling just two seconds short of beating the NCAA Division I school's best runner at the Hawaii-Hilo Invitational last week.

Deano Chaidemenakis, Chaminade water polo: The sophomore utility man from Greece had a pair of game winning goals on the Silverswords' trip through Calif. this week. Chaidemenkas broke a 7-all tie with Claremont in the final quarter and followed it up by upsetting No. 8 Chapman 5-4 with another game winner.
