pomandam@starbulletin.com"It's just outrageous and it angers me," the governor told reporters yesterday. "It's truly disrespectful to all the people who died at the World Trade Center and at the Pentagon and the plane crash in Pennsylvania. The woman has no sensitivity."
As reported in the Star-Bulletin yesterday, Trask, speaking at a University of Hawaii-Manoa forum sponsored by faculty and students who oppose war, said the United States brought the Sept. 11 attacks upon itself because of its policy to intervene in the affairs of foreign governments that oppose it.
"It is the foreign policy of the United States to invade and kill other people," Trask said in her speech. "And that foreign policy came back, as Malcolm X said, to haunt the United States."
Trask's comments should not be construed as the sentiment of the Hawaiian community, said Clayton Hee, Office of Hawaiian Affairs chairman.
"She certainly is a beneficiary of the country she says such derogatory and inflammatory statements about," Hee said. "And she does not represent the Hawaiians that I'm familiar with."
