Ah Mow leads USA to
volleyball championship


Former Wahine Robyn Ah Mow led the United States over Olympic and world champion Cuba 20-25, 25-22, 25-18, 27-25 to win its first NORCECA Championship since 1983 at Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on Sunday.

The USA was led by opposite Sarah Noriega, who destroyed the Cuban block throughout the match. Noriega was well supported by tournament MVP Tara Cross-Battle.

By winning the match, and title of NORCECA Champion, the USA qualified for its first World Grand Champions Cup to be held in Japan on Nov 13-25.

The USA will meet China, Russia, Brazil, Japan and Korea in the women's tournament held in the Japanese cities of Saitama and Fukuoka on Nov. 13-18.

Rose is Ivy League's player of the week

University High graduate Neil Rose, a senior quarterback at Harvard University, was named the Ivy League's offensive player of the week yesterday.

Rose, from Mililani, led the Crimson to a 26-6 win over Cornell last Saturday. On 33 plays, he gained a combined 317 yards rushing and passing.

Mid-Pacific club to hold 30K race

The Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club will hold a 30K race Oct. 21.

The race will start and finish at Kapiolani Park and is the fourth in the Marathon Readiness Series. For more information, call 295-6777.
