The following is a preview of movies opening this weekend that runs every Tuesday in the Star-Bulletin:

"From Hell" -- Albert and Allen Hughes get out of ghetto crime dramas ("Menace II Society" and "Dead Presidents") to direct this grisly thriller set in Victorian-era London about the hunt for Jack the Ripper. Based on the masterful Alan Moore/ Eddie Campbell graphic novel, it stars Johnny Depp as the psychically gifted Scotland Yard detective and Heather Graham as the street prostitute who may be the Ripper's next victim (R).

"The Last Castle" -- An action thriller about a court-martialed general (Robert Redford) who locks horns with a corrupt military-prison warden (James Gandolfini), a confrontation that escalates into a war when the general organizes his fellow inmates into an army to take over the prison (R).

"Riding in Cars With Boys" -- Drew Barrymore stars in this Penny Marshall-directed movie about a single mother, with dreams of becoming a writer, who gives birth to a son at age 15 in 1968, and goes through a failed marriage with the drug-addicted father (Steve Zahn) (PG-13).
