Applause for our colleague and competitor up the street, Bob Krauss of the Honolulu Advertiser who has completed 50 -- count em 50 -- years of, newspapering, chronicling the life of Hawaii with grace and charm. Thats a lot
of newsprint, BobIn an early column, Krauss quoted 87-year-old Aunt Jennie Wilson as saying about statehood; "It will be all right." Later he told us about seeing Danny Inouye the night of his election to the House of Representatives as he "sat dazed in his living room trying to comprehend the significance of what had happened."
Not all have been happy scenes. Krauss wrote of a soldier from Hawaii being wounded and later killed in Vietnam and, most recently, about the terror that has struck America and Hawaii. He concluded, rightly: "Terror shouldn't take over our lives."
Most remarkable, Krauss has held one job for half a century in a craft known for its mobility, upward and otherwise. Many of us have held a half-dozen jobs in shorter times. So we join with the "Tiser" in wishing Krauss another 50 years of sparkling copy.
