Ad2 Honolulu has selected Hale Kipa Inc. as the recipient of its annual pro bono advertising campaign. Pro bono ad
campaign winnerHale Kipa provides emergency shelter, foster homes, counseling and mediation services to troubled teens, and is "full of dedicated individuals," said Ad2 Public Service Committee Co-Chairwoman Jeela Ongley.
"The work they do is so important, not just for the kids and their families who are helped immeasurably, but really for the entire community as well," Ongley said.
Ad2 members -- advertising professionals age 32 and under, will volunteer creative and organizational services while local media donate air time or print space to run campaign materials.
Last year's pro bono work for the Hawaii Alliance for Arts Education was valued at $150,000, excluding volunteered work hours.
Rock-and-role change
KAHA FM 105.9, "Hawaii's Lava Rock," found itself without a program director, music director or morning show with the departure of the married "Rowdy and Sage" earlier this month.General Manager Jeff Coelho said the couple will return to the mainland to be closer to their family.
Marc Young has been hired as program director and afternoon drive personality from his music director job in Tucson, and John Miro has been promoted to morning drive time.
Starting Wednesday, mornings on Lava Rock will be "Joe six-pack doing a morning show," Miro said, "music-intensive, straightforward and not forcing bad humor down throats."
KAHA was ranked No. 19 among listeners age 12 and older in the spring Arbitron survey, while its chief competitor, KPOI, was ranked No. 13.
Specialty formats traditionally rank higher in target demographics, such as a rock station's focus on 18-to-34-year-olds.
