Saturday, October 13, 2001 The Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

Aquasearch Inc., which last week said it was officially launching its nutraceutical product AstaFactor on the mainland, rose 5 percent this week to lead 13 other stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. Biotech firms lead the way
Its Big Island rival Cyanotech Corp. followed suit this week and rose 4.6 percent after saying it is developing a national marketing campaign to promote its antioxidant product BioAstin. Cyanotech also said is received a patent for the use of BioAstin in treating canker sores.
Meanwhile, Cheap Tickets Inc. was dropped from the index this week after Cendant Corp. closed its deal to acquire the Honolulu-based travel discounter.
Controlled Environment Aquaculture Technology Inc., a shrimp producer based in Kauai, was selected to take its place in the index.
