bburlingame@starbulletin.comHaole Girl The fourth in a series of "adventures in Hawai'i" by Kailua -- now Arizona -- author gael Mustapha, this is the story of a girl who moves to the Windward side from the mainland. She learns to deal not only with her Caucasian-ness, but also with such modern labels as child of separated parents and military brat. Alas, adrift adolescents in an unfamiliar world. Despite some preachy passages, this would be a useful tool to teach can't-we-all-get-along-ness to kids. Ron Croci contributes some sketchy illustrations.

Maui Revealed These are complete and useful guidebooks for each of these neighbor islands (and the authors also have a Big Island guide). These would be handy also for Oahu residents who make occasional trips to the outers. We're talking maps galore, hotels, dining-out spots, activities, best beaches, the usual. It's all well printed in a handy digest size, with good color reproduction, although the layout artist is a bit too enthusiastic -- the pages are littered with little road signs (DIVERSION ALERT!) and giant diamonds (A REAL GEM!), that sort of thing.
