Seasiders sweep their
way to ITA final

Four Brigham Young-Hawaii tennis players continued to advance in the ITA West Regional at Davis, Calif.

Seasider teammates Jan Krejci, seeded No.1, and Peter Jadarassy each won two matches yesterday and will face each other in the men's final today. In doubles play, Krejci and Madarassy advanced to today's semifinal.

In women's competition, top-seeded Adrienn Hegedus and third-seeded Amy Sun also won two matches yesterday to advance to today's semifinals. But the pair was upset in doubles competition by Robyn Jaeger and Nikita Bhardwaj of Grand Canyon College in yesterday's semfinal.

The tournament concludes today. The winners advance to the ITA National Tournament.

McCarthy shuts out another for Gonzaga

Goalkeeper Mike McCarthy posted his fourth shutout of the season as Gonzaga defeated Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 2-0 in the Bulldogs home opener yesterday.

McCarthy, a junior from Kalaheo High School, has eight career shutouts.

Williams among the best 19-year old professionals

Jerome Williams has been named to Baseball America's All-Stars By The Ages 19-year-old team.

Williams, in his third professional season with the San Francisco Giants organization, pitched for Shreveport in the Class AA Texas League this year. The Waipahu High School graduate had a 9-7 record.

Walter, Wegner in town to defend tennis titles

The main draw of the 49th Dillingham Tennis Championships, featuring Hawaii's top pros, college and amatuer players, began this morning at the Punahou School tennis courts.

Jess Walter, a touring pro from Seattle, and Nina Wenger of Hawaii return to defend their respective singles titles.

Play runs from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. today and tomorrow. The finals are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday.

Mike Fetters, Pirates: The Iolani graduate picked up his eighth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning in Pittsburgh's 3-2 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Chris Truby, Astros: The Damien product did not play in Houston's 2-1 win over St. Louis.
