Devitt, UH's leading scorer, sat out Sunday's match at Cal State Sacramento after accumulating five yellow cards so far this season. She now will sit out the Western Athletic Conference opener at Tulsa on Oct. 12.
"Arlene merely touched a player (Laura Schott) who was man-handling a teammate. I don't know how noble her intentions were, but it was just a touch," UH coach Pinsoom Tenzing said.
California outshot Hawaii, 33-2, forcing UH goalkeeper Jennifer Churchill to make a career-high 11 saves. Still, the Golden Bears cruised to a 4-0 victory even though Cal coach John Boyd didn't think his team was focused in the first half.
Kassie Doubrava's goal at 39:50 gave Cal (8-1) a 1-0 lead at intermission.
Schott made it 2-0 at 56:27 with her ninth goal of the season. Three minutes later, Devitt received her red card after the altercation with Schott.
The Bears capitalized on having a player advantage with goals from Kim Yokers at 60:07 and Kacy Hornor at 74:20.
"Cal is a really, really good team. We played well. In the first half we created situations and were competitive," said Tenzing. "But, we missed some crucial passes and couldn't get a shot off on goal.
"The second half we played with 10, but you should have seen the way those 10 played. I'm very proud of them."
The Wahine (3-5) return home tomorrow and have nine days to regroup before opening WAC play.
