Harry Toscano of New Castle, Pa., was the top qualifier with a 67. Stubblefield matched Ed Brooks of Fort Worth, Texas, and James Mason of Dillard, Ga., who also qualified.
The four golfers join a stacked field for the Senior Tour in the Oct. 5-7 championship on the Arnold Palmer Course of the North Shore resort. Among the others in the field are Bruce Fleisher, Allen Doyle and Hale Irwin.
Two other local players, Hilo born Steve Veriato and Hawaii pro Lance Suzuki, will also be trying for some of the $1.7 million in prize money.
Lee wins Waikoloa Open by 1 stroke over Nakama
Oahu golf professional Regan Lee held the lead wire-to-wire to win the 2001 Waikoloa Open on Sunday with a three-day total of 217.Despite a double bogey on the final hole, Lee was able to hold off past champion Casey Nakama, who ended with a 218.
Lee pocketed $5,000 for his win and Nakama made $3,000.
Islanders to hold orientation tonight
Hawaiian Islanders head coach Guy Benjamin will host an orientation tonight at 7 at the Blaisdell Center for prospective players for the team's arenafootball2 league."We will be explaining to the guys that the athletes they'll be up against are from big-time programs like USC and UCLA," Benjamin said. "Arena football will provide our local players the ability to display their talents in a fast-paced, hard-hitting professional league."
Benjamin will go over training techniques in preparation for the kinds of drills the athletes will be required to perform at tryouts.
Niketown hosts 5K in Waikiki on Sunday
Niketown Honolulu announced its second annual 5K race down Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki on Sunday at 7 a.m.The entry fee for this event is used to help fund Oahu's public and private K-12 school athletic programs and play equipment. Marriott golf tournament raises $60,000 for literacy
More than 200 golfers competed in the Marriott Links to Literacy event this past weekend at Ko Olina Golf Club and wound up raising more than $60,000.Some 70 three-man teams took part in this charity tournament, including 11-year-old local phenom Michelle Wie.
Hawaii Polo Inn takes Governor's Cup
Hawaii Polo Inn won the 2001 USPA Governor's Cup on Sunday in the final polo match of the season at Waimanalo. La Martina-Subaru was second, Dawson International third and Beachcomber Realty placed fourth.Ron Bonaguidi was named the most valuable player and the best playing pony was Coyote, owned by Allen Hoe.
Wahine advance in Dillingham tourney
The University of Hawaii tennis team began its season with a good showing at the Dillingham Grand Prix Tennis Championships at Punahou Schools on Sunday.Senior Birgitte Brubakken swept Hawaii Pacific's Dora Holdarova 6-3, 6-3, while junior Polina Kravers beat Adriann Gin 6-1, 6-0.
Wahine freshmen Justin Bourer, Kimberly Curtis and Lyndsey Thomas all won their first collegiate contests.

One of the four tackles was unassisted, and three of them were on runs by Curtis Martin.The 49ers host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. For the season so far, Ulbrich has 14 tackles, including 10 solo stops.
