Aquasearch teams up with San Diego firm

Kona-based Aquasearch Inc. said it plans to join with San Diego start-up Ancile Pharmaceuticals Inc. to speed development of new drugs made from microalgae.

Aquasearch hopes to take advantage of a fast-track program created by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that allows applications for herbal drugs to be accepted several years sooner than for conventional drugs. Ancile, founded in 1998, has three of its drugs in the fast-track application process.

Consumer groups urge hard line with Microsoft

WASHINGTON >> A coalition of consumer groups sent a letter to state and federal prosecutors today asking them to be tough with Microsoft in the four-year antitrust case, calling for extensive business restrictions and allowing individuals to sue the company.
