The Outdoor Circle announced the Christine Snyder Tree Education Fund to educate people on the importance of trees and their proper planting and care.
Snyder, 32, was an arborist and project manager with the organization. She was aboard United Flight 93, which left Newark, N.J., bound for San Francisco. After being hijacked, the plane crashed in Pennsylvania.
Snyder, of Kailua, had been on the mainland to attend the American Forestry Conference in Washington.
"She was totally committed to preserving the beauty of these islands and worked passionately to convince those who didn't understand the importance of that goal," said Alan Fujimori, Outdoor Circle vice president.
Snyder recently worked to plant coconut palms and wiliwili trees on Magic Island.
The Aloha Arborists Association and the American Society of Landscape Architects are assisting with the fund.
