Chong leads Mustangs

Star-Bulletin staff

Coming off a bye week, the Kalaheo Mustangs clipped the Kalani Falcons 26-0 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association White Conference behind a strong rushing performance by B.J. Chong.

Chong rushed for 108 yards on 12 carries for two touchdowns. Early in the first quarter Chong rumbled off left tackle, broke into the open and went 35 yards for the TD.

The Falcons nearly doubled their average total offense the past two games of 40.5 yards per game, going 78 yards total against the Mustangs. Dane Souza rushed seven times for 43 yards.

Nanakuli 20, Radford 14:

Ikaika Asinsin and Rusty Lawson, who came into the game as the co-leaders in the White in rushing touchdowns, added to their total as the Golden Hawks (3-0) took control with the games' first two scores.

Asinsin, who also leads the conference in scoring, then contributed a 76-yard touchdown run off a fake punt to give Nanakuli a 20-point lead in the third quarter.

The Rams (1-2) answered later in the quarter on a fumble return and closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 30-yard touchdown pass from David Foster to Danson Julian. Rams receiver Mat Failauga caught three balls for 68 yards and is averaging 26.5 yards per catch.

Nanakuli plays its homecoming game against Waialua next Friday and Radford meets Kalaheo on Saturday.
